Petros Gkotsis - Attica Race

[powr-image-slider id=PGAttica]

A new classic, the Attica Race (as it is officially known) is less like a race and more like an appeal to Athenians to remember the beauty of cycling. Starting at the foot of the Acropolis, with the world-famous Parthenon overlooking them, cyclists of all walks of life and skill level roll out on a kind of pilgrimage along the scenic coast of the Athenian peninsula to the seaside temple of Sounio - an ode to Poseidon. The Greek Veteran Cyclist Union (PEPA) does a great job of organizing the event, and apart from the beautiful ancient structures, there are major bragging rights up for grabs as this parcours is perhaps the most popular and best-known training route in the whole country. But even those who don't win enjoy it enormously, and finish with a huge sense of accomplishment."
